Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (“PATH Kenya”) is a duly registered NGO operating as Public Benefits Organization (PBO) in Kenya, and is affiliated with a U.S nonprofit based in Seattle, Washington. Our mission is to advance health equity through innovation and partnerships.
For over three decades, PATH Kenya has been implementing sustainable health solutions that align with the country’s needs and priorities. As a locally registered organization, PATH Kenya forges close partnerships with county and national governments, local leaders, and communities to address complex health challenges, strengthen health systems, and improve health outcomes. Our key areas of focus include prevention and management of communicable diseases such as HIV and AIDS, non-communicable diseases, improving women’s health, advocacy and public policy, digital health, epidemic preparedness and response, increasing access to safe oxygen, partnering to reduce vaccine-preventable diseases, maternal, newborn, and child health. Our footprint spans over 40 counties with offices in Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Kakamega in addition to the Nairobi head office.

Board Director Role Overview
PATH Kenya’s board plays a critical oversight role by helping shape the organization’s strategic direction and overseeing progress in implementing and achieving the organization’s strategic objectives and goals. The board has a duty to ensure the organization pursues its mission in a manner consistent with the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and fairness and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Serving as a Board Director in a health organization is both an honor and a responsibility. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the delivery of healthcare services and to contribute to the well-being of communities. By combining strategic acumen, industry knowledge, and a passion for public service, Board Directors can play a transformative role in shaping the future of healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and governance oversight in line with PATH Kenya’s mission and strategic plan.
- Ensure sound financial management and accountability of the organization.
- Actively participate in quarterly board meetings and organizational events as needed.
- Review and support program priorities and risk mitigation strategies.
- Support stakeholder engagement with key stakeholders, such as health sector partners, government agencies, and donors.
- Serve as “goodwill ambassador” of PATH Kenya and support resource mobilization efforts through fundraising, networking, and partnerships.
- Uphold ethical standards and compliance with Kenyan legal requirements and international best practices on nonprofit governance.
- Promote values of transparency, accountability, and integrity.
Time Commitment
- Board members serve a three-year term and may serve up to two terms.
- Attend a minimum of four (4) board meetings annually (virtually or in person), with some flexibility based on availability.
- Participation in occasional committees or ad hoc meetings.
- Availability for consultation and strategic support as needed.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
- Have a medical or public health background with over 15 years of experience in the health sector.
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field such as health administration, public health, medicine, development studies, data science, or law.
- Strong networks with government institutions and key stakeholders at the national and county levels.
- Demonstrable donor relations and networks, and ability to support the organization in resource mobilization.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to contribute to long-term planning and innovation.
- Experience in leadership roles, preferably within healthcare or related sectors.
- Demonstrable commitment to ethical leadership, public service, and community empowerment.
- Previous board experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- Willingness to work closely with fellow board members and organizational leaders to achieve shared objectives.
- Ability to remain focused and perform effectively under pressure, particularly in a sector as dynamic and high-stakes as healthcare.
- Readiness to embrace change and guide the organization through transitions and challenges.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
