Deputy Director, Assurance, Internal Audit & Risk Department (IAR)
Closing Date: Wednesday, 03 Sep 2025 at 5.00 p.m.
The role holder is responsible for assisting the Director in developing and monitoring Departmental strategy and overseeing day to day running of the Department regarding planning, execution, reporting and follow up of audits and any other audit engagements/investigations. The role holder is also responsible for ensuring that the Bank has strong internal controls and governance processes.
1. Develop and monitor the Internal Audit strategic plan and report on its implementation.
2. Develop a risk based annual audit plan that is aligned to the risk profile of the Bank and monitor its implementation.
3. Develop the division’s operational plans, budget estimates, staff training and development plans and monitor and report on implementation.
4. Oversee the planning, scheduling and execution of audit engagements.
5. Provide risk advisory services to other departments to support maturity of the control environment and achievement of the overall Bank mandate.
6. Develop and implement continuous auditing and monitoring capability in the Bank.
7. Establish an effective audit issue follow up and reporting mechanism in the Bank.
8. Conduct assurance and consultancy assignments as requested by the Board Audit Committee and Management of the Bank.
9. Prepare periodic reports to Management and Board as required.
10. Lead, manage and coach the staff to achieve a high performing team.
11. Manage stakeholders to ensure achievement of the departmental mandate in the Bank.
12. Maintain a robust internal audit methodology in the Bank.
13. Establish a quality assurance program to achieve conformance to the Global Internal Audit Standards and staff compliance with the professional code of ethics.
14. Implement the Bank’s Performance Management Framework, define staff objectives, conduct staff performance reviews and advise on deployment and/or promotions.
15. Develop and implement a project assurance framework to support seamless delivery of Bank projects.
16. Leverage data analytics and other appropriate technologies and tools to drive automation and operational excellence in the Internal Audit processes.
17. Conduct regular departmental meetings and ensure staff are updated on developments within the Bank and the Internal Audit profession.
18. Perform other departmental administrative duties required to achieve the Bank’s mandate.
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or a business related discipline.
2. Master’s degree in a relevant field of study is an added advantage.
3. Professional qualification in accounting is mandatory – Certified Public Accountant CPA(K) or Association for Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
4. Membership of good standing in the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya and Institute of Internal Auditors.
5. Qualifications (s) in any of the following is an added advantage:
o Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
o Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
o Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
o Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP)
Minimum of Ten (10) years Internal Audit experience in a large and reputable organization with seven (7) years in senior management role in Internal Audit.

• Computer assisted audit techniques (CAATs) and MS office suite

• Risk and control assessment techniques
• Governance risk and control: tools and techniques
• Data collection and analysis tools and techniques
• Problem solving tools and techniques
