Overall purpose of the job

Reporting to the Director/CEO, the incumbent will be responsible for providing leadership and management of the Advocates Training Programme (ATP).

 
Job specifications (duties)

The specific duties and responsibilities will entail, but not limited to:

(i) Developing and coordinating implementation of strategies, policies and procedures to ensure achievement of School’s objectives;

(ii)  Planning the ATP calendar of the ATP programs;

(iii) Working closely with deputy director to develop strategies for marketing the School’s ATP programmes;

(iv) Developing budgets and work plans to match operational requirements with available funds, control and manage the budget and expenditure;

(v) Overseeing quality assurance systems of the ATP programs within the department to maintain standards;

(vi) Participating in the development and review of the curriculum to ensure the program addresses market needs;

(vii)  Mentoring and coaching staff;

(viii) Approving departmental budget;

(ix)  Ensuring staff performance appraisal is carried out;     

(x)  Preparing monthly departmental reports;

(xi)  Preparing timetables for respective ATP activities;

(xii)  Teaching, supervising and mentoring students;

(xiii) Ensuring student discipline;

(xiv) Allocating and supervising work/duties to members of staff;

(xv) Evaluating the performance of staff in the Department to ascertain efficiency and effectiveness in work performance in meeting the objectives of the function staff;

(xvi)  Evaluating course content to ensure they conform to the set curricula;

(xvii)  Dealing with internal and external correspondence;

(xviii) Setting, moderate and mark examinations;

(xix)  Setting and mark project work and administer oral examinations; and

(xx) Moderating pre bar examinations.

 
Persons’ specifications

The successful candidates should meet the following requirements: -

(i)  Have at least ten (10) years’ post admission relevant work experience in public or private sector, five (5) of which should be in management;

(ii)  Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized university;

(iii) Master’s Degree in Law (LL.M) from a recognized university;

(iv) Post-graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law;

(v)  Be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya with current practicing certificate;

(vi)  Be a member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing;

(vii) Have attended at least a management course lasting four (4) weeks;

(viii) Have fulfilled the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution; and

(ix) Proficiency in Computer Applications.
