HealthX Africa is an early-stage healthtech startup building modern telemedicine and digital pharmacy experiences for Africa. The company is seeking a Software Engineer who is excited to build and shape technology that makes a real impact across the continent.

You will join a small, agile, and supportive team working on web applications, backend services, AI-powered tools, and internal systems that enable doctors, pharmacists, and patients to access care more easily. This role is ideal for bold and curious builders who thrive in fast-paced environments and value mentorship, innovation, and meaningful work.

Software Engineer

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience in software development (with real-world projects or contributions).
• Strong experience with Python, Golang (preferred), or both — plus a willingness to learn new languages quickly.
• Solid understanding of backend development, APIs, databases, and distributed systems.
• Ability to write clean, readable code and improve through reviews and mentorship.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization tools such as Docker.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB) and NoSQL databases, as well as caching tools like Redis.
• Curiosity, creativity, and strong problem-solving skills grounded in first principles.
• Comfortable using AI tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot) to accelerate development and learning.
• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent hands-on experience with real projects.
• Ability to think clearly in systems before choosing tools — this will be tested.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build features for telehealth and digital pharmacy platforms.
• Write and maintain backend services using Golang and Python, shipping high-quality code quickly.
• Collaborate with designers and senior engineers to bring new product ideas to life.
• Integrate APIs for payments, logistics, authentication, and telehealth services.
• Build dashboards and tools for patients, clinicians, and operational teams.
• Test, debug, and optimize system performance and reliability.
• Apply best practices in cloud deployments, observability, scalability, and secure development.
