Basic job summary:
The job holder is responsible for providing the vision, leadership, and strategic direction of the school to achieve its goals and ensure enhanced student experience through quality curriculum delivery and research
1) Associate Dean-Academics
Duties & Responsibilities
• Lead the development and implementation of the academic strategy and business plan to deliver on the academic strategic priorities
• Advising the Dean on academic policies, standards, and emerging trends in the Education sector, locally and globally
• Support the Dean in providing academic leadership of the undergraduate activities within the school
• Advise the Dean on policy directions and strategic initiatives that impact and enhance effective provision of the school’s programs
• Create a platform for world-class faculty capacity development and career progression
• Lead the education and professional practice agenda to ensure that the faculty's key performance indicators are met
• Oversee curriculum development, including development/amendments of the syllabi and regulations for faculty courses/programs, and ensure that the curriculum is responsive to the students and market needs
• Seek and foster partnerships and collaboration to promote the accreditation and ranking of the school’s academic offerings
• Ensure that the faculty complies with legal requirements and with university instructions, decisions, policies, and procedures
• Advise the Dean on emerging regulatory and policy directions affecting the school’s academic offering and delivery of academic programmes
• Promote high-quality teaching and innovative pedagogical practices by supporting faculty in professional development related to teaching and learning
• Monitor academic standards and quality across programs
• Assist the Dean in providing oversight on academic matters affecting students (progression, appeals, academic support)
• Managing the school's strategic staff establishments by participating in sourcing, recruiting staff, and creating a conducive culture to maintain the school's academic standards
• Manage day-to-day operations of the school’s budget proposals and supervise implementation of the same
• Ensure that students enrolled in the school are supported to get placement for a community and industrial attachment, and that supervision and evaluation of the intended experiential learning is done as per university standards
• Attending the academic council in the absence of the Dean
2) Associate Dean-Research
Duties & Responsibilities
• Advise the Dean on policy directions and strategic initiatives that impact and enhance effective Research in the School.
• Oversee and provide strategic leadership for postgraduate research activities within
the school
• Coordinate and support the development of research priorities in the school
• Encourage and support staff in applying for internal and external research grants
• Mentor Junior Faculty in developing research skills and scholarly output
• Ensure that research activities comply with institutional, national, and international ethical standards.
• Monitor and report on the school’s research performance and outputs (publications, grants, citations, etc.).
• Facilitate partnerships and collaboration with other departments, external institutions, industry, and funding bodies.
• Managing the school's strategic staff establishments by participating in sourcing, recruiting staff, and creating a conducive culture to maintain the school's research standards
• Manage day-to-day operations of the school’s budget proposals and supervise implementation of the same
• Create a platform for world-class faculty capacity development and career progression
• Promote and foster research among academic staff in the school to enhance learning and the school's research profile
• Seek and foster partnerships to promote the accreditation and ranking of the school’s academic research
• Ensure that the faculty complies with legal requirements and with university instructions, decisions, policies, and procedures
• Advise the Dean on emerging regulatory and policy directions affecting the school’s research activities
• Attending the academic council in the absence of the Dean
Minimum Academic Qualifications:
• Doctorate (Ph.D.) in the area of specialization
• Registered with the relevant professional body
● 10 years of university teaching/research experience with 5 years’ experience in a managerial position
• Experience teaching & learning, research, and administration
