Description
CITAM seeks to recruit a born-again Christian who is experienced and self-motivated to fill the position of a project accountant, whose responsibility will be to support the humanitarian programs teams on financial matters related to the programs for smooth and quality implementation. This is to ensure proper internal controls and responsible management of grants and overall donor relationships.
The position reports to the Social Action Projects Coordinator.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare monthly financial reports, statements, variance analysis, and reconciliations using appropriate templates, in line with donor requirements.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records including ledgers and journals.
- Liaise with banks on donor funds, follow up on incoming transfers, and negotiate for better exchange rates on local currency inflows.
- Disburse funds for project activities in a timely manner, ensuring correct expense allocation.
- Assist in imprest requisitions and surrenders, ensuring proper documentation.
- Support purchase requisition processes to ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
- Provide variance explanations and recommendations to program staff to enhance budget ownership and financial understanding.
- Work in conjunction with the Head of Finance in funding proposal development, budget planning, and stakeholder engagement.
- Oversee transactions, petty cash, and asset management, including reconciliations.
- Review transactions for compliance with grant/contract terms, donor regulations, and internal policies.
- Ensure familiarity with program regulations and reporting requirements for proper donor compliance.
- Participate in financial training for project staff to strengthen financial accountability and capacity.
- Must be a born-again, mature Christian who conforms to the CITAM statement of faith.
- Minimum of 6 years relevant experience in a similar role, with 4 years in complex multisector donor funded projects.
- Bachelor’s Degree in B Com/BBM/BBA (Finance/Accounting).
- Professional Accounting Qualification of at least CPA / ACCA finalist.
- Strong working knowledge with donor requirements, grant management systems and compliance frameworks.
- Working knowledge and experience in use of ERP system, preferably Sage X3.
- Ability to work well and collaboratively with a team, lead own work, and disseminate information timely.
- Proficiency in project management tools and budgeting software.
- Must be analytical, meticulous, firm and friendly, diligent, self-driven and a team player.
