About me

Proficient in qualitative and quantitative research, data analysis, market research, policy analysis and business development. During my engagement as a Research Assistant at Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, I took part in different projects involving data collection, entry, cleaning, analysis and visualization. I collected data using software such as ODK and Kobo collect. We analyzed the data using Microsoft Excel and SPSS software. We collected data on industrial production and marketing, retail market pricing, hotel occupancy, agro-processing, education, health, poverty, food security, employment and national macroeconomic sectors. We collected data through focus group discussions, household-based surveys, institutional surveys and desktop research. I am passionate about business development, trade facilitation, strategic policy development and promotion of local businesses in the international market.
While at Kenya Climate Innovation Center, I participated in different research projects including Kenya- Estonia business exchange program which aimed to identify potential areas of collaboration. Locally, I have offered business advisory to Small, Medium and Growing businesses, supported their product development and market strategy development processes. To promote a conducive business environment, I participated in policy research workshops which identified policy gaps, proposed amendments and formulated policy statements that created an enabling business environment for the business community. As a business advisor, I supported enterprises in agribusiness, waste management, water management, renewable energy and commercial forestry sectors. Over the years, I have studied the policy framework in different regions including the European Union, Africa Continental Free Trade Area, USSR as well as an understanding of the role that World Trade Organization plays in global trade facilitation. To create market exposure, I have supported Kenyan entrepreneurs to attend international exhibitions, conferences and trade fairs. These positively impacted their operations as they were able to unlock new markets abroad and create market partnerships.

Work Experience

Business Analyst, SWIFT Program
Kenya Climate Innovation Center April 1, 2024 - September 30, 2024 The Sustainable Waste Innovation for a Future in Transition, SWIFT Program supports SMEs in Solid Waste Management in Kenya with financial aid from IKEA Foundation. As a Business Analyst, my role involved offering business advisory, access to finance and impact monitoring. I supported youth and women-led SMEs from across Kenya with business planning, financial modelling and forecasting, financial analysis, technical training, product development, market research and access, marketing strategy development and branding. I supported with application mobilization, review, due diligence and selection of final clients. Through the program, we offered financial support in form of matching grants and affordable debt. I conducted financing due diligence, proposed cases for review and supported the investment team to draft grant and loan agreements, finance disbursement, utilization monitoring and follow up on loan repayment. I supervised and developed professional capacity of the Junior Business Analysts in the program. Together, we organized physical and virtual trainings, invited clients in advance, confirmed attendance and maintained daily attendance register. I represented the program and the organization in different conferences, summits, exhibitions and stakeholder forums. I supported the development of operation strategies, conducted market research to identify opportunities for program clients and supported them to develop strategic go-to-market strategies. To create an enabling business environment, I participated in a policy research initiative and supported 5 city counties in Kenya to domesticate the Environment Management Act at County level. Through the program, we supported 5 entrepreneurs to attend a Circularity Conference in South Africa and 2 others to attend business exchange forum in Estonia.
Business Analyst, AgriBiz Program
Kenya Climate Innovation Center August 1, 2023 - March 31, 2024 The AgriBiz Program supports youth and women-led SMEs in the agribusiness value chain in Kenya with financial aid from European Union and Danish International Development Agency. I served in the Kisii Business Incubation Hub covering Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Homabay, Kisumu, Kericho, Bomet and Narok counties. I offered business advisory, supported with business planning, financial modelling and forecasting, financial analysis, technical training, product development, market research, marketing and sales, and branding. I supported enterprises with financial statement development and analysis to assess their financial health in readiness for investment. Through the program, we offered financial support in form of proof of concept grants and results based financing. I worked closely with the Hub Manager and fellow Business Analysts to coordinate hub activities, trainings and exhibitions. Through the program, we facilitated over 50 enterprises to attend local exhibitions and international conferences which translated to more sales and greater business exposure. To create an enabling business environment, I participated in a policy research initiative and supported 2 counties in Kenya to develop agricultural policies. I collaborated with different institutions including Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization, Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service, Dairy Technology Institute, Agriculture and Food Authority, Coffee Research Institute and International Potato Center to identify tariff and non-tariff barriers, policy gaps and other bottlenecks that hindered local entrepreneurs, and together we prepared and presented policy recommendations to the relevant ministries for consideration.
Junior Business Analyst
Kenya Climate Innovation Center January 30, 2023 - July 31, 2023 I served in the Kiambu Business Incubation Hub covering Kiambu, Nairobi, Murang’a, Nyandarua and Nakuru counties. My role spanned around offering business advisory to entrepreneurs including supporting with business plan and business model canvas development, financial modelling and forecasting, financial analysis, technical training, market research and analysis, branding and operational strategy development. I supported enterprises with financial statement development and analysis to assess their financial health in readiness for investment. To assess program performance, I participated in the development of data collection tools, data collection, cleaning, analysis and visualization.
Research Assistant, Kenya Household Master Sample Frame
Kenya National Bureau of Statistics May 1, 2022 - July 31, 2022 KNBS contracted me among others to develop a household master sample frame from which censuses and surveys will be conducted. It involved identifying selected geographical units using GPS coordinates, marking boundaries, visiting all households in the cluster where we collected information on name of household head, his/her occupation, and the household size. Data was collected using Kobo Toolbox as the survey tool and data transmitted to the server for real-time analysis. We managed 100% coverage and response rate.
Research Assistant, Kenya Continuous Household Survey Program
Kenya National Bureau of Statistics October 1, 2020 - December 31, 2021 The household survey aimed at measuring the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) using expenditure approach. From the households, we collected from a responsible household member on household size; education achievement; employment; expenditure on education, housing, food consumption, health and household goods and engagement in economic activities. 95% response rate was achieved. Data was collected using Survey 123 software and data transmitted to the server for real-time analysis. I actively participated in the data cleaning, analysis, visualization and report writing processes, leading to the production of detailed sector reports that informed policy and development initiatives in the country.
Farm Manager
Self Employed January 1, 2020 - December 31, 2022 In 2020, out of passion for agribusiness, I set my foot into agricultural production and marketing. I practiced irrigation farming and produced French beans, African leafy vegetables, pumpkins, arrow roots and tree tomatoes. I used to sell my products directly to wholesalers, retailers and end consumers at local markets. From this, I gained hands-on experience in agricultural best practices, climate smart agriculture, market timing and market positioning, farm record keeping and stakeholder engagement. ICT Supervisor, Kenya Population and Housing Census
Kenya National Bureau of Statistics August 1, 2019 - September 30, 2019 I trained content supervisors and enumerators. For the week-long enumeration period, I was mandated to coordinate enumeration exercise within Kigoro Division in Gatanga, Murang’a County. I coordinated the issuance and recovery of census materials from enumeration personnel including tablets and payment of allowances to personnel as well as collection and entry of personnel bio data in a database, verify phone numbers for MPESA transfers and Bank account details for bank transfers to facilitate final payment. I resolved technology hitches using appropriate troubleshooting techniques. I ensured consistency and accuracy in data collection, complete enumeration and safety of data collected. We managed 100% enumeration within the stipulated timelines. Data was collected using ODK software.

Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government April 1, 2019 - June 30, 2019 The exercise involved capturing of citizens’ biometrics using CAPI system and consolidating data for all government entities to create a single source database for efficient service delivery. As a team, we managed to register 95% of the target population within our area of operation.

Kenya National Bureau of Statistics October 1, 2018 - December 31, 2019 After graduation in October 2018, I offered to volunteer at KNBS, Murang’a County office to gain hands-on experience in my field of study. During this period, I learnt much on data collection, entry, cleaning, analysis, and reporting including production of visual reports such as graphs and charts. I gained skills in the use of Excel for data entry and analysis, the wide range use of its functions such as sum, if, count, VLOOKUP among others.
