Description
Applications are invited for the following position:
STUDY NURSE - CENTER FOR EPIDEMIOLOGICAL MODELLING AND ANALYSIS – AD/10/43/2025, 2 POSTS
The Project CEMA, a Center of Excellence at the University of Nairobi established in 2020, unites experts from multiple disciplines to use data-driven approaches in tackling infectious diseases and improving public health in Africa. It has guided responses to COVID-19 and other outbreaks, advanced disease control efforts, and strengthened capacity in health data analysis with support from major global funders such as the Gates Foundation, CEPI, and the Wellcome Trust. This is a 24-month, multi-site study on infectious diseases, funded by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).
The position:
The Study Nurses will report to the Project Coordinator, Accelerating CHIKungunya burden Estimation to inform Vaccine Evaluation (ACHIEVE), be based at Isiolo County Referral Hospital and Merti Sub-County Hospital, and occasionally travel between the two sites.
Duties and Responsibilities
a) Obtain informed consent/assent and ensure participant rights, safety, and
confidentiality are safeguarded.
b) Perform study-related nursing procedures, including venipuncture and the handling of biological and maternal samples in line with study protocols.
c) Provide treatment and routine clinical care as instructed by study clinicians, including monitoring vital signs, giving prescribed medications, and follow-up care.
d) Accurately complete Case Report Forms (CRFs), Laboratory Requisition Forms
(LRFs), and all other required study documentation within the REDCap electronic
data capture system.
e) Ensure compliance with biosafety, infection prevention, and ethical standards in all
study-related procedures.
f) Support the study sites to ensure a safe and efficient environment.
g) Maintain accurate study and patient records and generate reports as required.
h) Perform any other study-related duties as may be assigned by supervisors.
Job Specification
Applicants must have:
a) Diploma in Nursing or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
b) Registration and valid practising license with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
c) At least three (3) years of nursing experience.
d) Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognised institution
e) Experience working in donor-funded infectious disease research projects will be an
added advantage.
f) Ability to use REDCap for data entry and management will be an added advantage.
g) Knowledge of the local language(s) spoken in Isiolo County will be an added
advantage.

Terms of Appointment
The appointment will be for one (1) year contract, renewable subject to performance and availability of funds.
