Overview of the Position

Our client in the hospitality/Catering industry is looking to hire a Line Cook. They will be is in charge of preparing food and setting up other necessary supplies. They make sure everything has been set up correctly before starting work. They use specialized kitchen tools to prepare essential ingredients and create a finished product.

Key Responsibilities
  • To assist with mise en place through distribution of tasks and to ensure the monitoring and completion of tasks is done properly and in time allocated.
  • Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices.
  • Season and cook food according to recipes or personal judgment and experience.
  • Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with appropriate utensils/equipment.
  • Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Portion, arrange, and garnish food, and serve food to waiters or patrons.
  • Substitute for or assist other cooks during service times or rush periods. Must also be available to cover as and when he/she is called upon to do so.
  • Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables to prepare them for consumption.
  • Ensure that food is well prepared prior to service/cooking.
  • Consult with supervisory staff to plan menus, taking into consideration factors such as costs and special event needs.
  • Participate in staff meetings and in staff training where applicable
  • Report and record in the appropriate manner any information considered to be important to the Head Chef/Unit Manager.
  • Adhere to organizations policies, procedures and conform to the industry Food Hygiene procedures
  • Ensure that a good standard of hygiene and cleanliness is maintained throughout the kitchen, to meet the required standards of practice prescribed by Environmental Health Agencies
  • Ensure all equipment used is well maintained, in good working order and to log any defects and report to the Head Chef and or Unit Manager
Relevant Qualifications
  • A minimum Certificate in Food Production.
  • 1+years experience in the food service and hospitality arena
  • Well-versed in preparing food items consistently while adhering to recipe standards
  • Track record of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Possess current food handlers certificate
  • Excellent service skills
  • Must possess strong attention to detail
  • High personal integrity, professionalism, and maturity
