Duties
Job Overview
Drives couriers and diplomatic bags to and from Nairobi's airport as required Act as an expediter; keeps couriers abreast of any airport or visa issues that may arise in Nairobi. Provides assistance to diplomatic couriers in moving classified pouches through Nairobi Intl Airport. Is responsible for maintenance of Nairobi Regional Diplomatic Courier Hub's (NRDCH) vehicles.
Major duties and responsibilities
Escorts couriers and pouches between the aircraft and embassy. Maintains good rapport with airline security authorities and obtains their assistance, if needed, in order to maintain uninterrupted courier operations through Nairobi when security circumstances change. When acting as an expediter assists in reformulating flight plans and booking tickets when regularly scheduled courier trips are disrupted due to unforeseen circumstances. When required, pays for the transport of diplomatic pouches and is familiar with cargo capacity of different aircraft. Is responsible for the regular maintenance of NRDCH vehicles.
Obtains necessary customs clearances for diplomatic cargo arriving at Nairobi International Airport.
When crossing international borders is expected to have the correct paperwork including the vehicle paperwork and personal passport in order.

Qualifications and Evaluations
- Requirements:
All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a security clearance.
All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam. Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
All candidates must hold a valid Kenyan Driver's License
All candidates must hold a valid Passport

Experience:
Position requires a total of 3 years' experience - i.e., 3 years' experience in driving standard vehicles and commercial trucks; and 2 years clerical and/or airport cargo experience in shipping, transportation or a related field also required (included under the 3 years).

Job Knowledge:
General knowledge of mandatory visa requirements for courier travel in East Africa. General knowledge of airlines cargo shipping and customs procedures and Kenyan law.
Skills And Abilities:
Maintain a current and valid local driver's license for large commercial trucks, vans and regular passenger vehicles. Ability to use a computer to include MS-word, Excel, etc. Ability to manage difficult situations and make appropriate loading decisions under pressure. Ability to professionally negotiate with airline agents and airport officials. Must be capable of performing moderately arduous work including lifting of 50 lb. loads and loads of several hundred kilos with mechanical equipment.

The following apply to EFMs, USEFMs, and AEFMs only:- Current employees who used a hiring preference to gain employment who are within their first 90 calendar days of employment are not eligible. This does not apply when the hiring mechanism is TEMP or the work schedule is intermittent or irregular.
